Plagiarism is the presentation of other people's thoughts or words as if they belonged to the author himself without permission, credit, or acknowledgment, or for not properly citing the source.
- An author may copy another author's work by copying word for word, in whole or in part without permission, acknowledging or citing the source. Practices like these can be identified as suspected plagiarism.
- Substantial Copying implies one author reproducing a significant part of another author, without permission, acknowledgment, or quotation. the term substantial can be understood in terms of both quality and quantity, it is often used in the context of intellectual property. the condition refers to the relative value of the text copied in proportion to the work as a whole.
- Paraphrasing involves taking ideas, words, or phrases from sources and constructing them into new sentences in writing. This practice becomes unethical when the author does not quote properly or does not acknowledge the original author's work. This form of plagiarism is a form that is more difficult to identify.
