<p>As a modernist, Syafii Maarif’s intellectual contributions are particularly notable in the fields of religious and political thought, as well as education. The process of renewing Islamic thought by Syafii Maarif has developed dynamically and has also influenced the emergence of Islamic modernists in recent times, who seek to encourage Muslims to interpret Islam as rationally as possible in various aspects of life, particularly in theology, philosophy, and Sufism. Syafii Maarif is a modernist figure with a highly rational mode of thought who has successfully developed various concepts relevant to the modernization of Islam in the realms of education, politics, and socio-culture. These concepts have had a significant influence among the public particularly among intellectuals and the educated and have the potential to bring about change and renewal in Indonesia.</p>
