Abstract

This study explores the implementation of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches in developing Islamic multicultural education in Indonesia. The approach emerges from the need to bridge the gap between religious and general sciences that have long been separated within the national education system. Using a qualitative descriptive method based on literature review and policy analysis, this research reveals that integrative paradigms rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration provide an epistemological foundation for inclusive, adaptive, and contextually relevant Islamic education. The findings indicate that integrating diverse scientific disciplines within Islamic education enhances the values of tolerance, moderation, and social justice. However, challenges remain in the form of limited teacher competency, institutional resistance, and fragmented policies. The study concludes that strengthening interdisciplinary Islamic education requires continuous policy support, capacity building for educators, and collaborative research among Islamic educational institutions.
